Are you struggling to figure out what holiday gifts you should get your client? At BoldThink, we know that the client gift you choose to give is a direct reflection on you and your business. We have brainstormed and compiled a list of great holiday gifts that not only make an impact through thoughtfulness, but also can make a difference in your local community.
Each year, we make a pledge to shop local. We are a small businesses trying to make it through each day with the dream of growing and striving to be the best at what we do. If you take a moment to consider the impact your business makes and put that at a higher priority than what the big box stores offer, usually cost savings and choices, you will undoubtedly see the value in staying local. Not to mention, as the Institute for Local Self-Reliance found in a national study, local spending has three times the impact on your community as dollars spent at national chains. Though it’s not always easy to ditch the big box store for everyone on your holiday list, at the very least, you can pledge to buy only locally sourced goods for your client gifts. It will also force you to put a little more thought into each and every gift.
Here are some ideas that we came up with for you:
1.) Tickets to see the Nutcracker: December 14th through the 16th. Only a small number of tickets are left. What better way to show your client how much you appreciate them by giving them the gift of a beautiful performance supporting the arts community? You can buy tickets here.
2.) Local handmade goods from your neighborhood gift shop: There is something to be said for shopping at the local mom and pop store. When you step inside their doors, you can often look around and see all the thought that goes into each product placement, display and experience to make each and every customer feel welcomed and cheerful. It’s not unusual to see the same people day in and out working behind the counter and happily helping each customer pick out a unique gift. We encourage you to shop around at a few different stores and spread the love. A bonus: locally owned shops typically stock items from local artists. Not only are you supporting a local store, you are supporting a local artist who is also making a living doing what they love best. Some of our favorite local stores include Homespun: Modern Handmade, Silver in the City, Three Dog Bakery, Artifacts and Just Pop In.
3.) Branded notecards or stationary: We’re sure this isn’t the first thing that pops into your mind as a client gift, but it truly does make an impact. Clients love sending things out with their name on it, but we are guessing that not all clients have their own stationary set (nor the budget for it). This is something that not only markets their business, but it allows them to send out that little extra something to their own clients. For bigger impact, partner up with a local artist or illustrator and make it even more customized for your clients. We’ve heard great things about local illustrator Candice Hartsough McDonald of Cordial Kitten and graphic designer Pam Fraizer of Fraizer Designs.
4.) Gift certificates to your favorite restaurant: Oh, how we love eating out and experiencing Indy’s foodie scene! And let’s face it, who doesn’t love getting a gift certificate and getting out of the house or stepping away from the Blackberry? Our list could go on and on, but here are some of our local favorites that are sure to please even the pickiest of palettes; Bluebeards: already destined for greatness, this local eatery makes their meals with all locally sourced ingredients. Goose the Market: known for their witty slogan of “real meat has a tale”, this little deli has great sandwiches and gelato. Don’t forget to check out downstairs though! They have a great selection of some of the most unique wine. Jockamos Upper Crust: what recommendation wouldn’t be complete without a little pizza pie? With two locations in Irvington and Greenwood, this pizza place is just plain awesome.
5.) Coffee Giftcard: We’d be fooling ourselves if we didn’t have a little caffeine in here somewhere. Instead of getting the usual gift card from another coffee shop, why not get one from a local company? Hubbard and Cravens has a couple of locations in the Indianapolis area. They also have some fantastic loose leaf tea too!
6.) Bottled goodness: Have you tried Hoosier Mama Bloody Mary mix? It’s a bit of heaven in a bottle. It’s local, vegan and gluten free. Need another bit of heaven? Rumor has it that St. Elmo’s, known for it’s amazing, sinus clearing, eye tearing cocktail sauce is now bottling it up and selling it online. Please , dear Santa, bring me bottle of that!
7.) Growlers, anyone?: You really need to know your clients on this one, but we are guessing many of them are okay with receiving a growler of hoppy goodness. Sun King Brewery, Tomlinson Tap, and Upland are all great choices. Decorate it up with a ribbon on top and a handwritten note, and you are good to go!
