During my time at Boldthink, I gained invaluable experience in just three months!
My name is Frances Dimaranan. I was the Boldthink Design Intern during the Fall of 2024. Starting my journey as an intern was an exciting yet challenging experience. I created designs for companies and nonprofits around Indianapolis. I presented to clients and managed an office work environment for the first time. Throughout my journey, I saw myself grow into a more professional designer.
Boldthink helped me with my Design Thinking Process.
Although my classroom environment helps my creativity when designing, Boldthink helped me define problems and solutions clearly. When planning, things can get messy, and the message may get lost. My supervisor and co-workers gave me honest feedback that helped me clean up my designs to be more professional.
The projects where I could see myself grow became my favorites.
Throughout each project, I wanted to improve and create cleaner and more creative works. In particular, the Boldthink Web Template became one of my favorite projects. I was tasked with creating a web design for a fictional life coach. I created the branding, offered services, and developed a persona. Before this, I had very little experience designing a website, but each round I went through feedback, I felt myself grow more and more.
My improvement came from honest feedback.
One of the most exciting yet terrifying parts of my internship was presenting to clients. Connecting and understanding the client is an important aspect of designing. I made a mistake regarding what a client needed and created logos that did not match their identity. At the time, I was incredibly disappointed in myself and the work that I did. However, I realized that making mistakes was all part of learning. I am fortunate enough to have my supervisor and colleagues to help me navigate my misinterpretation. From this, I can learn and grow even more.
In just 3 months, I felt more confident as a designer.
As a 4th year student in Visual Communication Design, I was unsure how the professional world of design truly was. My experience with Boldthink has helped me realize that companies need designers more than ever. Companies should care about their brand, how they can connect with their audience, and how they can deliver a clear message. With how much faster we discover brands and services, creating a distinct identity is what helps companies stand out.
